White Oak Campground
The White Oak Camp Ground was established in 1820 for the purpose of the Augusta District United Methodist Church Camp Meetings. United Methodists have worshipped here for over 200 years. Bishop Asbury, during his travels through Georgia, is said to have preached to a crowd of more than 8,000 people during the summer of 1820.
Summer camp meeting is held the last full week in June, featuring an 11:00 am service with a local preacher and an 8:00 pm service with a visiting preacher. Special music provided by the visiting song leader and area church choirs.
White Oak Camp Ground also holds a three day long spring camp meeting during the third weekend in April and a three day long fall camp meeting during the second weekend in October of every year. These three day long weekends plan for a Friday night service, Saturday morning and night service and a Sunday morning worship service.
White Oak Camp Ground features a swimming pool, playground and nature trail for visitors to enjoy. This relaxing country atmosphere welcomes campers all year long. Several campsites are available for a small per night fee. Water, electricity, and sewer connection are included in the camp space fee. The swimming pool is open to the community through the purchase of a summer long pass or a daily pass if you choose. Just seven miles from the town of Thomson, Georgia and 30 minutes from historic downtown Augusta gives visitors many options for dining out and site seeking. The 100 seat dining hall, heated and air conditioned, is available to rent for family reunions, birthday parties, and other family oriented activities.
White Oak Campground is governed by a 15 member board of trustees. For more information about White Oak Camp Ground, please call (706) 595-1837 or (706) 651-6139. |
